Seminole County Public Schools Make the Grade
Seminole County Public Schools are renowned for excellence! Money Magazine’s
list of the top 100 school districts ranked Seminole County among the nation’s highest
quality education systems, and the National School of Excellence designation has
been awarded to three schools located here. For the past 22 years, SAT scores in
Seminole County have consistently exceeded state and national averages. Preparing
students to live and work in an increasingly high tech and global marketplace is
the cornerstone of Seminole County’s academic programs.
- In the past five years, more than $39 million has been spent on technology
for schools and classrooms in the county.
- In the past ten years, the district has spent more than $450 million on
renovation and construction of new schools. Percentage of dollars spent in the
classroom exceeds 65% (second highest in the state).
- Magnet programs in math, science and technology are available at the elementary,
middle school and high school levels. Other magnet programs provide emphasis
in fine arts, tourism, finance, communications, environmental studies and health
careers.
- A pre-international business baccalaureate program is available at the middle
school and high school levels.
- Today in Seminole County schools, 113 countries are represented and 93 different
languages are spoken.
- For the 4th consecutive year, Newsweek recognized all nine Seminole County
public high school as being in the top 5% in the nation based on the number
of advanced placement tests taken by all students in public high school.
- The School district has been recognized every year since 1992 for being
in the top 10% of the nations 15,600 schools districts as meeting the needs
of families choosing schools (School Match-What Parents Want Award)
- Since 1977, Seminole County SAT scores have exceeded the state and national
averages.
- SCPS has been rated by the Department of Education as an “A” district since
the inception of district grades in 1999.
- Over 80% of graduating seniors from Seminole county high schools attend
a two or four-year college or university.
- Over 24,000 volunteers donated over 480,000 hours to 61 schools serving
students from kindergarten through high school. This represents $9.4 million
worth of services to our schools by the community.
- Named an “Academically High-Performing District” by the State Department
of Education.
