WORKFORCE EDUCATION COMMITTEE

Currently the members of this committee are working on four ongoing projects:

1) Seminole County Public Schools Middle School Teacher & Student of the Month.  This program is designed to target the often forgotten Middle Schools.  In honoring the teacher of the month, we look to highlight someone who not only gives in the classroom but who is a participant and leader in extracurricular activities or programs.  The student we look to honor is not necessarily the one who has the best grades in the class but perhaps has overcome a challenge, works and participates harder than most or who sets an example for his/her classmates.

2) Job Shadow Day.  A sub-committee of Workforce Education has put together a Job Shadow Day for a group of Lake Mary High School Students.  Students will visit a variety of businesses on April 12th, chaperoned by Committee members.  Lunch will be provided by Junior Achievement.

3) Sales Tax to Schools Promotion.  Workforce Education has committed itself to promoting to both Chamber businesses and non-member businesses the allocation of the sales tax fee to Seminole County’s Schools.  The plan in place calls for meetings with other Chamber committees to spread the word, a Linked-In page, talks at local meetings and possible Public Service Announcements.

4) Junior Achievement.  Currently the Committee is looking to fill as many spots as possible for Junior Achievement in Seminole County Schools.
